So I'm thinking about creating a Mastodon instance for members of these forums.
While I like the forum software we are using for this forum, but I don't think it's as easy or intuitive for people to use as I would like.
Mastodon would provide a more twitter / tumblr experience that more people are familiar with. I think it would make the site more fun and engaging. Plus they have very nice Android and iOS apps in addition to a very good web interface.
Those who have been on here for a while will notice that even though we have over 550 users, only a handful of them are actually posting and interacting (I'm guilty as well). I fear the vast majority have simply forgotten about us here. âšī¸
I've done some research and I figure it would cost me:
- $15 / month for email service through sendgrid
- $20 / month hosting (digitalocean)
- $5 / month extra storage for images (digitalocean)
For a grand total of $40 / month or $480 / year
So my proposal is this.
If I could raise $480 then I will put it together and fund it for 12 months and see how it goes.
During which time I will still keep these forums up and running.
The main benefits would be easier to use, more content rich, hopefully more people engaging, more fun, and more cock!
